As of early January 2026, reliable backstage sources indicate Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will not compete at WrestleMania 42 (April 18-19, 2026, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas). Rumors of his involvement have been firmly shut down, with insiders clarifying that any ongoing discussions are focused on WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2027).
The update comes from ticketing and marketing insider Andrew Baydala, who posted on X on January 2: “Before these ‘rumors’ get wild again—The Rock is NOT wrestling at this year’s #WrestleMania. The ‘big offer’ under discussion is for next year’s Mania 43 in Saudi Arabia, and there appears to be hesitation about proceeding, given that The Rock knows it would most likely be his last match.”
At 54 years old by WrestleMania 43, Johnson—busy with Hollywood commitments and his TKO Board role—views any return as potentially career-ending. If he accepts, it could headline against Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns, delivering a long-teased dream match with massive global draw, especially in Saudi Arabia’s record-breaking market.
The Rock’s last in-ring appearance was WrestleMania 40 (2024 tag team with Reigns), followed by a brief “Final Boss” cameo aiding John Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber 2025. No plans exist for interim returns before 2027.
