Honda is recalling approximately 98,892 vehicles (Honda and Acura models) in the U.S. due to a faulty front passenger seat weight sensor that may cause the frontal and knee airbags to deploy improperly.
What’s the Issue?
A capacitor in the printed circuit board of the front passenger seat weight sensor can crack due to humidity exposure, leading to an internal short circuit. This may prevent the system from properly suppressing airbag deployment when it should (e.g., for a child in a car seat, a small child, or a smaller adult). In a crash, this increases the risk of injury to those occupants.
- No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect.
- There have been some warranty claims noted.
This is not the older, much larger Takata airbag inflator recalls (which affected millions of vehicles from the 2000s–2010s and involved potential explosions).
