Driverless Vehicles Will Expand The Entertainment Industry

It seems like everyday we are seeing major automakers as well as major companies unveiling their prototypes and models of new electric and self-driving vehicles. Companies like Tesla, Nissan, Google, Uber and Amazon are said to be leading the charge, but the hunt is on for all.

Companies are putting more and more into trying to get ahead and make a jump in the changing auto industry. An industry that many believe has changed from the motor oil engine we have today to one that is completely driverless and electrically powered. This is happening overseas as well, with China appearing to be the overall leader of the industry.

China buys and manufactures the most cars in the world. And they have already doubled the sales of electric vehicles compared to the United States, mainly due to government promotion and the benefits you get from buying and using these vehicles.

The rise of driverless vehicles has been made possible because of the amount of money and time these giant companies are now investing in the industry. All trying to create the perfect model, battling each other for the top spot.

Driverless vehicles are believed to be almost 100% safer than vehicles that have a driver behind the wheel. Humans are easily distracted, often speed and make costly mistakes on the road. Major automakers are now trying to create the right mix of autonomous safety features, better technology and an experience of greater comfort.

The one unknown winner in all this will be the entertainment industry. Driverless cars aim to keep more people safe on the roads. So what will you do during your next road trip when you don’t have to worry about driving or directions?

Some of us may be sleeping, some of us may be reading or grading papers, but the truth is that most of us are now watching TV or a movie or even playing a gaming system. Technology has advanced so much in the last few years and it will continue to expand. New technology will keep us connected to our cars so that we can enjoy long road trips with some dim lights, comfortable chairs and movies while you ride in your own car.

General Motors just revealed its latest service called Marketplace. This new service will allow you to use your touchscreen in the car to access a variety of services such as food, entertainment, gas and even hotels. GM is continuing the trend toward more connected cars, which we’ve already seen with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in several new vehicles.

The Marketplace service offers featured brands and deals, giving you easy access to your morning meal while on the road. The system is set up so you get in your car, start driving and pick up your order or reserve a hotel and then head to your destination. The service will automatically take you to any location you choose, such as the nearest BP gas station.

The service will also act as an advertising platform as well as a crowdfunding platform for companies to bring their products and logos to your touch screen. Various companies like Wing Stop, Dunkin’ Donuts and TGI Fridays are reportedly all in by now.

The push for driverless cars will open the door for the entertainment industry and allow it to merge with the auto industry. The two will likely team up to offer TV, movies, sports, gaming, and more to any and all driverless vehicles on the road.

The possibilities and benefits are endless for the accessibility of these new features to further connect the automobile with the rider.
