Models like the S-Presso saw cuts up to ₹1.29 lakh, Alto K10 up to ₹1.07 lakh, Celerio ₹94,100, and WagonR up to ₹79,600—far exceeding the 8.5% GST benefit alone.
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India, confirmed the review during a recent media interaction: “Very soon, we are going to take a call on whether we revert to GST prices or continue with strategic pricing.” The goal of those deeper cuts was to boost motorization rates, encouraging two-wheeler owners to upgrade to four-wheelers.



Demand has surged dramatically, with the mini segment reporting nearly 100% sales growth and a booking backlog exceeding 1.5 months. First-time buyers’ share has risen by about five percentage points, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. December 2025 saw Alto K10 sales around 10,800 units and S-Presso near 4,000, underscoring the segment’s revival.
These affordable hatchbacks remain cornerstones of Maruti’s lineup, offering practical features like efficient 1.0-litre engines, decent mileage (up to 25 kmpl), compact dimensions for city driving, and basics such as touchscreen infotainment in higher variants, ABS, and dual airbags.




Industry observers view this as a positive sign for the broader auto sector. “The entry-level rebound shows policy working—lower taxes have made car ownership realistic for more families,” noted an analyst. Maruti’s vast network of over 3,000 dealerships ensures accessibility, with showrooms buzzing again post-GST changes.
