Several Paris Jewish institutions sprayed with green paint

Jewish institutions in Paris. Authorities in Paris have launched an investigation after several Jewish sites across the capital were defaced with green paint. The vandalism was discovered early Saturday morning and targeted the Shoah Memorial, two synagogues and a Jewish restaurant in the city’s historic Marais district.

Five Jewish institutions were sprayed with green paint in Paris overnight, according to police sources. The targeted sites included a memorial honoring people who helped to rescue French Jews, and authorities are treating this as an antisemitic incident.

French officials have strongly condemned the vandalism. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau expressed “immense disgust at these shameful acts directed against the Jewish community”. This incident comes amid a broader rise in antisemitic incidents nationwide and highlights ongoing security concerns for Jewish institutions in France.

The timing is particularly concerning as it occurred ahead of Shavuot, a major Jewish holiday. French authorities have indicated they will bolster security around Jewish institutions in response to this attack. This follows a pattern of similar incidents, including previous vandalism at the memorial site in 2024.
