Inflation has been all but non-existent during the Obama years, yet you wouldn’t know that by looking at the increase in college/university tuition at the state level, especially in California. Students are told in high school that college is essential to have a fruitful life and stay in the elusive middle class, and are told to go into debt to get that degree (more like economic slavery) without any guarantees . Most college professors and administrators are in the 2%, not the 1%, but well ahead of what their students should expect to achieve. Let’s talk, because the academic bubble is still forming and it’s about to burst – things have gotten out of hand.
There was a troubling segment on the ABC News affiliate in Los Angeles (Eyewitness News 7) recently on March 22, 2017: “CSU Trustees Vote to Raise Tuition by 5% Amid Protest from Students”.
First, I want to point out that education has not gotten better in the California State University system, by all measures and accounts it has gotten worse. degree students are undervalued in the market, because employers realize that their education is not up to par, and that those degrees do not predict or predict whether students will be productive employees Won’t even know what they’re doing.
Most professors, especially tenured professors, are not teaching much in the classroom, as they spend a lot of time on sabbaticals, and now lecture to graduate students. The university’s increased cost is accompanied by an increase in legacy costs (pension) and healthcare Cadillac style health care programs for staff and professors. Although their pension fund isn’t as bad as the University of California system, which is far less, it isn’t breaking any records – this Trump bump in the stock market recently saved your ass (temporarily) if you were to know. Want the real skinny on that.
It’s time to face facts – the CSU system (California State University) is broken, the academic community is broken, damn close to universities that give degrees in gender studies, sustainability, racial equality, LBGT studies – to those kids Never gonna get a job pay off those student loans – Academia is on drugs by any rationally observable standard – Sucks – Federal research grants and money from taxpayers and extortion, subsidies and socialist agendas totally suck. Some in our think tank online, say to put it quite bluntly; “Fuck it all, it’s just BS now,” and I believe these think tank members are absolutely right.
Why a 5% increase in tuition when enrollment is at an all-time high? Why increase tuition without increased benefits? The degrees are not worth more than they were last year, in fact they are worth less now. The California State University System is just as out-of-control as the California University System, and academics across the country are saddled with $1.4 trillion in student loan debt, 45% of those loans have never made a single payment or 90 are -overdue days. The academic industrial complex is a giant bubble about to burst, and what does the CSU system do? Increase Tuition? Oh, that’s going to help a lot… No!
