The Truth About Electric Vehicles
Japan has been researching EV (electric vehicle) technology for the last 20 years but the fact is that the electric vehicle was invented before the gasoline engine vehicle. Electric vehicles haven’t really gained popularity due to weak battery and recharge systems. Now scientists have discovered minerals like lithium that could really advance this technology to make a huge impact on consumers.
As we all know that there are 3 types of vehicles running on our roads.
Petrol/Diesel Vehicles
Hybrid vehicles that are partially electric. And
EV-Electric Vehicle
Many new developers and enterprises are taking a bold interest in producing electric vehicles, but the bulk of the market share is still held by the dominant major players such as GM, Honda, Toyota and Nissan. This monopoly would drive up prices due to long research times and expensive batteries. The Mitsubishi IMIEV is priced at JPY 3,980,000. A rebate of JPY 1,140,000 is available for end users under the Japanese government’s support and zero emissions incentive program. This makes the final price tag of JPY: 2,840,000
The 500 cycle motor that drives the car is at the back, and the battery -LEV50 x 88 – is the main component of the IMIEV. It will be fully charged in 14 hours. From house plug of AC100V. But since a good time of about 14 hours is still unacceptable to many. So every manufacturer is focusing on providing fast battery charging solutions to the users. Even Govt. Has announced to provide assistance to set up more than 2,000 quick charge points by the year 2020. These points will be useful and the user can re-charge almost 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes. But even then it would be a question because it doesn’t take more than 2 minutes to fill the tank from gas station.
Apart from this, if the user drives the car in full beam and full air conditioning position, then the battery will not run even half the distance when the battery is fully charged. Drivers should therefore note that the IMIEV will last only up to 80 kms. If airconditioning and lights are used continuously. But normal cars do this and in vehicles the alternator keeps charging the battery.
The Nissan Leaf another EV set to have a total retail price of JPY 3760000 and after govt. A discount of JPY770,000 will bring the final price to JPY2,990,000. As we discussed above these little babies will be on the expensive side until battery prices come down. So if you keep the vehicle for 7 years it can be economical as compared to existing gasoline engines.
We believe there is no immediate concern about gasoline engines disappearing from this planet, they have been here for the last 100 years or more and will be around us well into the future.
