Under the hood, the reborn Prelude borrows the proven e:HEV hybrid powertrain from the Civic and CR-V. A 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder teams up with two electric motors for a combined 147kW of power and 315Nm of torque. Drive goes through Honda’s refined e-CVT with paddle shifters and clever simulated downshift blipping to keep things engaging.
Chassis upgrades are serious: adaptive dampers, dual-axis front suspension, and four-piston Brembo brakes – all shared with the Civic Type R – plus 19-inch alloys for sharp handling. Inside, the cabin feels instantly familiar to Civic owners, with leather sports seats, a 10.2-inch digital cluster, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen running Google built-in plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
While it sits above the Mazda MX-5 RF and Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ in price, the Prelude is pitched as a refined grand tourer built for long-distance comfort rather than pure track aggression. The timing is perfect – Toyota is reportedly eyeing its own coupe revival with a possible new Celica and even an MR2 successor.
