2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Facelift Revealed: More Tech, Bigger Focus on V8 Power
Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the facelifted 2026 Maybach S-Class, blending subtle exterior updates, significant technology upgrades, and a strategic shift toward V8 power in several key markets.
While the ultra-luxury flagship closely mirrors the recent S-Class facelift, it retains its distinctive Maybach identity with exclusive styling cues and an even stronger emphasis on rear-seat passenger comfort.
Exterior Updates
The refreshed Maybach S-Class features a larger, illuminated front grille with vertical slats and a prominent “Maybach” wordmark. The bonnet now carries an illuminated three-pointed star, while new Digital Light headlamps include distinctive three-pointed star daytime running lights with exclusive rose gold accents.
The front bumper adopts a mesh pattern inspired by the Maybach logo, and the tail-lamps have a revised LED signature. In profile, the car remains noticeably longer than the standard long-wheelbase S-Class, reinforcing its chauffeur-driven character.
New 20-inch and 21-inch forged alloy wheels feature intricate designs and a self-leveling Mercedes emblem that stays upright while the wheels rotate. Buyers can choose from expanded Manufaktur customization options, including new paint finishes and two-tone color combinations.
Interior and Rear-Seat Luxury
The cabin continues to prioritize rear-seat passengers. Reclining rear seats now offer up to 43 degrees of tilt, supported by heating, ventilation, and massage functions. For the first time, Mercedes is offering a leather-free vegan upholstery option on a Maybach model, alongside more extensive leather coverage that extends even to the footwell area.
The dashboard adopts the new “Superscreen” layout from the standard S-Class but features exclusive Maybach graphics and rose gold highlights. A key change is the replacement of the previous rear tablet controller with two individual smartphone-style remotes, giving rear passengers greater flexibility and control.
Major Technology Upgrades
The facelifted Maybach S-Class introduces a significantly upgraded tech suite, including an AI-powered voice assistant that integrates ChatGPT, Bing, and Gemini. The vehicle now runs on a new electronic architecture supported by four high-performance computing units, managing everything from infotainment and safety systems to driving dynamics.
Powertrain Changes
Mercedes is shifting focus toward V8 power in many markets:
- The S 580 continues with an updated 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 537 HP and 750 Nm.
- In select markets, a plug-in hybrid variant combines a 3.0-litre inline-six with an electric motor for a combined 585 HP and up to 98 km of electric-only range.
- The flagship S 680 badge will now represent either a V12 (retained in markets like the US and UAE) or a high-output 4.0-litre V8 producing 612 HP and 850 Nm (expected in markets including India).
Night Series Variant
The popular Night Series package returns, featuring darker exterior finishes, blacked-out trim instead of chrome, and unique wheels with Maybach branding for a more understated yet striking appearance.
India Launch Expectations
The updated Maybach S-Class is expected to reach India in early 2027. The S 580 variant is likely to continue with local assembly at the Pune plant, but the added technology and features could push the on-road price beyond the Rs 3 crore mark.
With enhanced luxury, advanced technology, and a stronger emphasis on powerful yet efficient V8 engines in many regions, the facelifted Maybach S-Class aims to strengthen its position as the ultimate expression of Mercedes-Benz luxury.
