Addleshaw Goddard PEP Hits £1 Million Amid Double-Digit Revenue Surge
Trending Topic: UK Law Firms Achieve Record Financial Growth in Competitive Market
London, UK – August 21, 2025 – Addleshaw Goddard, a leading international law firm, has reported a milestone achievement for the financial year ending April 30, 2025, with profit per equity partner (PEP) reaching £1 million, up 1.6% from £984,000 the previous year. The firm also recorded an 11% revenue increase, rising from £495.6 million to £550.9 million, marking its fifth consecutive year of double-digit revenue growth. Total profits grew by 6%, climbing from £210.5 million to £224.1 million, solidifying Addleshaw Goddard’s position as a top performer in the UK legal market.
The firm’s robust financial performance was driven by strong demand across its key markets and strategic investments in global expansion. Managing Partner Andrew Johnston, who took the helm in May 2024, attributed the success to growth in core sectors such as financial services, energy, and real estate, as well as contributions from new offices in Madrid and Riyadh. The firm also expanded its global presence by acquiring Linklaters’ Warsaw office in February 2025 and opening a new office in Abu Dhabi post-financial year. These moves boosted the firm’s partnership by 9% to 444 partners and increased global headcount by 6% to 2,952.
Strategic Growth Fuels Success
Addleshaw Goddard’s financial results reflect its ambitious AG2030 strategy, launched in November 2024, which aims to double the firm’s size by 2030. Key transactions in the UK included advising Nationwide Building Society on its £2.9 billion acquisition of Virgin Money, Coventry Building Society on its £780 million purchase of The Co-operative Bank, and Guardian Media Group on the sale of The Observer newspaper to Tortoise Media. The firm also supported the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy on Post Office Horizon compensation schemes, showcasing its expertise in high-profile matters.
The firm’s international expansion played a significant role, with non-UK income growing substantially since 2017/18. The Middle East, particularly through the Riyadh office’s first full year, and the new Madrid office contributed to the firm’s 11% revenue growth, though this marked a slight slowdown from 12% in 2024 and 18% in 2023. Johnston highlighted the firm’s “robust cash position” as enabling continued investment in people, offices, and innovation, including advancements in legal technology like AGPT, Addleshaw Goddard’s secure version of ChatGPT.
Standing Out in a Competitive Market
Addleshaw Goddard’s performance outpaced several UK rivals, such as Pinsent Masons and Simmons & Simmons, which reported revenue growth of 4.7% and 7%, respectively, though their total revenues remained higher at £680 million and £615 million. The firm’s focus on diversification across nine core sectors—manufacturing, energy, financial services, health, real estate, retail, sport, technology, and transport—has driven consistent growth, with financial services alone accounting for nearly 30% of income.
The firm’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) also remains a cornerstone of its strategy. Legal Director Aamnah Hussain, co-chair of AG Embrace Manchester, emphasized the firm’s efforts to enhance representation, particularly for South Asian and Muslim lawyers, through initiatives like reverse mentoring and challenging recruiters to prioritize diverse talent. “Addleshaws always has a strong and powerful message when it comes to DEI, regardless of what is happening in the world,” Hussain said.
Looking Ahead
With a strong balance sheet and a clear growth trajectory, Addleshaw Goddard is well-positioned to continue its upward momentum. The firm’s investments in technology, such as AGPT, and its expansion into Central and Eastern Europe via the Warsaw acquisition signal its intent to remain a global leader. Industry recognition, including being named Law Firm of the Year by The Lawyer in 2024 and ranking among Europe’s top 10 most innovative law firms by the Financial Times, further underscores its success.
As Addleshaw Goddard celebrates its eighth consecutive year of revenue and profit growth, the £1 million PEP milestone highlights its ability to thrive in a competitive legal landscape, delivering value to clients while advancing its global ambitions.
