Advantages & Disadvantages of Electric Cars

[ad_1]

As a result of rising oil prices and rising gasoline prices, the desire for alternative fuels is greater than ever. Electric cars are an alternative mode of transportation that avoids the use of gas. Electric cars have both advantages and disadvantages as an alternative means of transportation.

advantages of electric cars

  • Electricity is everywhere and easily available. We don’t need to set up a power station in the corner to re-charge our cars. This can be done at home.
  • Electric vehicles are noiseless.
  • There are no emissions from electric vehicles. The result would be a cleaner environment with less smog and greenhouse gases.
  • Assembling electric cars is easy. They have fewer moving parts so they require less time and effort to put together.
  • Electric cars require less maintenance. So not only will the owner save money on the purchase of gas but the maintenance cost will be less as well.
  • Tax credits or exemptions may be possible if an electric car is purchased. Check with your city and insurance company to see if there are any special rates or discounts for buying an electric car near you.
  • Power plants that produce electricity for cars pollute the environment, but pollution from these power plants can be better controlled than gasoline engines.

disadvantages of electric cars

  • One charge on the battery can take the car for about 160 km. So if you are planning to travel long distances then this is not the car to use.
  • It takes 6-8 hours to fully charge the battery. You can’t expect it to be ready to go in a few minutes once the battery dies.
  • There is no battery charging station along the highways for long distance travel. And if it were, it would take a lot longer to fully re-charge your car.
  • To recharge the car battery, you must have a charging station in your home.
  • Your electricity bill will likely increase because you have to draw power from your home’s electrical system to charge your car.
  • Electric cars cannot compete with gas-powered cars in terms of speed and acceleration. Technology has not yet developed an electrical system in the form of a gas powered vehicle.
  • Accessories like air conditioning will drain the battery faster.

Today electric vehicles work brilliantly for short distance travel and would be ideal for weekend commutes or for the person working from home. Electric vehicle manufacturers are working hard to make this car efficient and useful for all. Meanwhile, a gas/electric hybrid is an effective option for the long-distance driver. While this saves gas, there is no need to re-charge the vehicle’s battery.
