Sean Charles Dunn, a 37-year-old former Department of Justice (DOJ) employee, was fired and charged with felony assault after allegedly throwing a Subway sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent in Washington, D.C. on August 10, 2025. The incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. near 14th and U Street NW, was captured on video and went viral. Dunn reportedly yelled profanities, including calling the agent a “fascist” and shouting, “Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!” before throwing the sandwich and attempting to flee. He later admitted to police, “I did it. I threw a sandwich.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Dunn’s termination, stating on X, “Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony. This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months.” Dunn, who worked as an international affairs specialist in the DOJ’s criminal division, was charged under a federal statute prohibiting assaulting or interfering with law enforcement officers. U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro emphasized the felony charge, saying, “He thought it was funny. Well, he doesn’t think it’s funny today.”
The incident occurred amid President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of D.C. police and deployment of federal agents, a move criticized by some D.C. residents and Democrats as unnecessary, given data showing violent crime at a 30-year low. Dunn’s attorney has not publicly commented, citing a pending hearing.
