GP Belgium: Plastri beats Norris, Leclerc reports Ferrari on the podium

Oscar Piastri won the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, beating his McLaren teammate Lando Norris by 3.415 seconds to secure his sixth victory of the season and extend his drivers’ championship lead to 16 points. The race, delayed by over an hour due to heavy rain, started with four laps behind the safety car. Piastri overtook pole-sitter Norris on Lap 5 at Les Combes with a bold move, maintaining the lead through effective tire management on medium tires, despite initial concerns about their durability. Norris, on hard tires, made several errors, including a lock-up at Turn 1 and a mistake at Pouhon, which cost him time and prevented a closer challenge. Charles Leclerc secured third place for Ferrari, 20.185 seconds behind Piastri, holding off Max Verstappen, who finished fourth. Leclerc credited Ferrari’s new rear suspension upgrade for the podium but noted the team still trails McLaren by multiple tenths. Lewis Hamilton, starting from the pit lane after a disastrous P16 qualifying, fought back to finish seventh, showcasing strong recovery in wet-to-dry conditions. McLaren celebrated their sixth one-two finish of 2025, solidifying their 248-point lead in the constructors’ championship.
