How BaaS Helped Hero Vida Cross Two Lakh Electric Scooter Sales

Hero Vida Electric Scooters Cross 200,000 Sales Milestone in India with Explosive Growth

Hero MotoCorp’s electric two-wheeler brand Vida has officially crossed the 200,000 retail sales mark in the domestic market, marking a major milestone for the company in India’s fast-growing EV segment. What stands out most is the dramatic acceleration in recent months, as the brand sold its second 100,000 units in just eight months after taking 34 months for the first lakh.

According to the latest figures, Vida has recorded cumulative retail sales of 202,422 scooters from its market debut in October 2022 through late March 2026. This rapid surge highlights shifting consumer preferences toward affordable electric scooters and the effectiveness of innovative ownership models in the competitive Indian two-wheeler market.

The sales trajectory tells a story of remarkable turnaround. In calendar year 2024, Vida delivered 43,709 units. That number jumped sharply to 109,276 units in 2025 — a 150 percent increase — giving the brand an 8 percent share of the electric two-wheeler market. Momentum has continued strongly into 2026, with 38,114 scooters sold from January to March 23 this year, pushing its market share to 11 percent amid more than 100 competing electric two-wheeler manufacturers.

March 2026 is set to become the ninth consecutive month where Vida registers over 10,000 retail sales. While October 2025 remains the record month with 16,033 units, early registrations suggest March could challenge or even surpass that high. This consistent performance has helped Vida secure the fourth position in overall electric two-wheeler sales rankings, overtaking several major rivals and holding that spot firmly since late 2025.

Industry experts attribute much of this success to Vida’s aggressive Battery as a Service (BaaS) model, which significantly lowers the upfront cost for buyers. Instead of paying the full price of the expensive battery pack at purchase, customers can opt for a monthly subscription plan while buying the scooter at a reduced price.

For the base VX2 Go variant (2.2 kWh battery), the standard ex-showroom price is around Rs 74,000. With the battery subscription, the upfront cost drops sharply to just Rs 44,990. The higher-spec VX2 Plus model, typically priced at Rs 94,800 ex-showroom, becomes available for approximately Rs 70,000 under the BaaS option. This pricing strategy has made Vida scooters highly attractive to budget-conscious daily commuters in cities and towns across India.

The brand’s product lineup has also evolved to meet market demands. After a relatively slow start with the original V1 series, the updated V2 series launched in late 2024 brought meaningful improvements. The introduction of the more affordable VX2 models in July 2025 proved to be a game-changer, transforming Vida from a modest player into a high-volume contender.

To support its growing customer base, Hero MotoCorp has rapidly expanded Vida’s retail footprint. The network now spans 415 cities with over 700 dealer touchpoints. Owners also benefit from access to more than 5,000 charging stations, including integration with the extensive Ather Grid network — a smart move leveraging Hero’s earlier investment in Ather Energy.

This combination of affordable pricing through BaaS, improved products, and wider availability has clearly resonated with Indian buyers looking for practical, low-running-cost electric scooters for daily commuting. As the electric two-wheeler segment continues to expand, Vida’s performance signals strong potential for Hero MotoCorp in the EV space, even as competition remains intense from established players and new entrants.

With consistent monthly sales above 10,000 units and a solid fourth-place ranking, Vida is well-positioned to build on this momentum in the coming months. The brand’s focus on making electric mobility accessible and hassle-free could play a key role in accelerating EV adoption among millions of Indian two-wheeler users.
