Jade Cargill WrestleMania 42 plans just took a shocking turn as the reigning WWE Women’s Champion openly admits she wanted Charlotte Flair as her opponent instead of Rhea Ripley. The Storm is ready to prove why WWE made the right call making her champion, but her upcoming clash with “Mami” at the Showcase of the Immortals wasn’t her first choice — and the backstage truth is blowing up online.
In a no-holds-barred interview on The Joe Budden Podcast, Cargill explained why the dream match with Flair felt more natural. “We’ve always teased Charlotte Flair since day one,” she said. “Every time I had a face-to-face with this girl, we got a huge reaction.” She added that her two previous staredowns with Rhea Ripley drew a noticeably different crowd response, and she believes the Charlotte matchup would have been an “easier route” because of the built-in tension and history of attitude-filled confrontations.
Still, Cargill understands the business side. She believes going against Rhea “is more money that’s going to be made,” which is exactly why WWE booked the massive WrestleMania 42 showdown in Las Vegas next Sunday. The 2+2 powerhouse called Ripley a “backed and built talent by WWE” while making it crystal clear she still wants that unfinished business with The Queen.
If Cargill walks out of WrestleMania still holding the gold, she already has her eyes on SummerSlam in August to finally settle things with Charlotte Flair. The two have been circling each other with intense staredowns ever since Cargill joined WWE on October 13, 2023, creating one of the most anticipated rivalries in women’s wrestling today.
For U.S. fans, this storyline hits different. WrestleMania season always delivers the biggest moments, and having the undefeated Cargill defending against the dominant Rhea Ripley while teasing an even bigger dream match with 16-time champion Charlotte Flair has everyone talking. The women’s division is on absolute fire right now, and this main-event level drama is exactly why millions of American viewers tune in every week.
Cargill has faced rising stars and now steps up against established immortals, but her mindset stays the same — prove it every single time she steps between the ropes. With WrestleMania 42 just days away, the entire WWE Universe is locked in to see if The Storm can weather the storm that is Rhea Ripley… and what happens next with Charlotte Flair.
