Joseph Duggar Released from Arkansas Jail After Solitary Confinement; Whereabouts Still Unclear Amid Serious Charges
Joseph Duggar, the former Counting On reality star, has been released from custody in Arkansas after spending more than a week in jail, including significant time in solitary confinement.
According to a new report from People magazine, Duggar was released on March 27, 2026, following his arrest on March 18 in Tontitown, Arkansas. He had been held while awaiting extradition to Bay County, Florida, where he faces serious charges related to the alleged molestation of a 9-year-old girl in 2020.
Joseph is accused of lewd and lascivious behavior with a minor under the age of 12 and lewd and lascivious behavior committed by an individual over the age of 18. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison on those counts.
During his time in Arkansas custody, Duggar told his wife Kendra in a recorded call that he was being held in solitary confinement, spending 23 hours a day in an 8-by-10 foot cell. He mentioned reading the Bible and struggling to sleep at night.
It remains unclear whether Joseph has been extradited to Florida or released on bail. His next court appearance — an arraignment in Panama City Beach, Florida — is expected soon, at which time he will formally enter a plea. The only thing that could prevent formal charges at this stage would be the alleged victim recanting her testimony.
Kendra Duggar Also Facing Charges
Joseph’s wife, Kendra Duggar, was also arrested during the same investigation. Her charges are separate from the Florida molestation allegations. When authorities searched the couple’s home, they reportedly discovered locks on the outside of their children’s bedroom doors, leading to charges of child endangerment and false imprisonment against both Joseph and Kendra.
Kendra was able to post bail after only a few hours in custody. Joseph could face an additional nine years in prison if convicted on the endangerment and false imprisonment charges. Kendra faces the same potential sentence on those counts.
The couple, who have several children together, rose to fame on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting and later Counting On. Joseph has long been a controversial figure within the Duggar family due to past admissions of inappropriate behavior toward his sisters when they were children.
This is a rapidly developing story. Joseph’s current whereabouts are unknown to the public, and it is not yet confirmed whether he is in Florida awaiting arraignment or has been released on bond. Further updates are expected once he appears in a Florida courtroom.
