Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe in Surrey, British Columbia, was targeted in a second shooting incident on August 7, 2025, less than a month after the first attack on July 9, 2025. The latest incident involved at least six bullets fired at the cafe around 4:40 a.m., shattering windows and damaging the building, though no injuries were reported as staff were present but unharmed. A social media post, allegedly from gangster Goldy Dhillon, claimed responsibility on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, stating, “Jai Shri Ram… aaj jo Kapil Sharma ke Kap’s Cafe, Surrey mein firing hui hai, iski zimmedari Goldy Dhillon te Lawrence Bishnoi gang leti hai…” and threatening further action in Mumbai. However, this claim lacks independent confirmation.
The earlier July attack involved nine to twelve bullets fired at the cafe, with Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi, linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and on India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) most-wanted list, claiming responsibility. Laddi cited offensive remarks about Nihang Sikhs’ attire and conduct made on Kapil Sharma’s comedy show as the motive, demanding a public apology. The cafe reopened on July 20, 2025, with a statement expressing gratitude for community support and a commitment to remain a place of “warmth and community” despite the violence.
Surrey Police are investigating both incidents, with the Frontline Investigative Support (FLIS) team probing potential links to rising extortion threats targeting South Asian businesses in the area. No arrests have been made, and the motive for the second attack remains unclear. Local residents reported hearing five to eight gunshots, and police are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage. The repeated attacks have raised concerns about escalating violence and extortion in Surrey, with no official statement from Kapil Sharma on the latest incident.
