Kevin Bacon Wanted to Be a ‘Lonely Farmer,’ but Wife Kyra Sedgwick Had Other Plans

April 7, 2025 — Kevin Bacon, the versatile actor known for Footloose and Tremors, recently revealed a surprising personal tidbit: he once dreamed of ditching Hollywood for a solitary life as a farmer. In an interview with People published Sunday, the 66-year-old star shared how his vision of rural isolation was upended by his wife of 36 years, Kyra Sedgwick, who steered them toward a more connected, family-focused existence instead.

“I had this romantic idea of being a lonely farmer,” Bacon admitted, chuckling as he described his fantasy of “standing out in a field with a pitchfork, just me and the land.” The notion took root after the couple bought their 40-acre farm in Sharon, Connecticut, in the late 1980s—a retreat from their New York City base. Bacon, who grew up in Philadelphia, envisioned a quiet escape where he could “disappear into nature.” But Sedgwick, 59, an Emmy-winning actress from The Closer, had a different script in mind. “Kyra was like, ‘No, we’re not doing that,’” he recalled. “She wanted community, friends, animals—life.”

That clash of visions shaped their reality. Today, their Connecticut farm buzzes with activity—horses, goats, pigs, and chickens roam the property, a far cry from Bacon’s lonesome ideal. “She brought the chaos, in a good way,” he said, crediting Sedgwick with turning the farm into a family hub for their kids, Sosie, 32, an actress, and Travis, 35, a musician, plus a revolving cast of pals. The couple’s latest venture, caring for three baby goats named Macon, Louie, and Falcon after losing their beloved pig Cary Grant, underscores Sedgwick’s influence. “Kyra’s the one who gets us out there feeding them,” Bacon noted.

Their dynamic reflects a partnership that’s weathered Hollywood’s ups and downs since their 1988 wedding. Sedgwick’s push for connection even inspired Bacon’s side gig with The Bacon Brothers band, where he performs with his sibling Michael—a creative outlet he might’ve skipped as a reclusive farmer. “She’s the extrovert; I’m the guy who’d happily hole up,” he told People, laughing about their opposites-attract chemistry.

Fans on X lit up over the revelation, with one posting, “Kevin Bacon as a lonely farmer? Kyra saved us all from that plot twist!” The couple’s farm life, documented in occasional Instagram posts—like Bacon strumming a guitar for the goats—offers a glimpse of Sedgwick’s victory. As they approach four decades together, Bacon seems content with the rewrite. “I got the animals and the family instead of the solitude,” he said. “She knew better.” For the man once six degrees from everyone, it’s clear Sedgwick keeps him closer than ever.
