Maruti Suzuki’s September Sales Hit Export Highs Despite Home Turf Slump
Hey folks, if you’re keeping tabs on the Indian auto scene, Maruti Suzuki just dropped its September 2025 numbers, and it’s a mixed bag. Total sales clocked in at 189,665 units— that’s 135,711 sold right here in India, 11,750 going to other makers like Toyota for their badge jobs, and a whopping 42,204 shipped overseas. That export figure? It’s the company’s best monthly haul ever, showing how the world can’t get enough of those reliable rides.
What really juiced things up was the fresh GST tweaks, which had folks feeling good about opening their wallets. Add in the Navratri festive buzz, and deliveries hit a record 165,000 units in just the first eight days. Not everything was smooth, though—logistics snags in late September put a dent in domestic wholesale.
Breaking it down, domestic passenger and light commercial vehicle sales fell 8.38% year-over-year to 135,711 from 144,962. Passenger cars specifically dropped to 132,820, while the Super Carry mini-truck saw 2,891 units, down a bit from 3,099. On the bright side, sales to Toyota jumped 31% to 11,750, and exports surged 52% from last year’s 27,728.
Zooming out to the full second quarter of fiscal 2026 (July through September), Maruti moved 550,874 units overall—a modest 1.72% bump from 541,550 last year. Home sales dipped 5.55% to 401,874, but exports roared ahead 42% to 110,487. Toyota volumes edged up slightly to 30,056, and light commercials stayed steady at 8,457.
Segment-wise, mini and compact cars like the Swift and Baleno held firm at 74,090, up a touch. But utility vehicles—think Brezza and Grand Vitara—tumbled to 48,695 from 61,549, vans like the Eeco slipped to 10,035, and the Ciaz sedan? Zilch sales this month.
Bottom line: Domestic demand cooled in SUVs and sedans, but that export boom and Toyota tie-up kept totals in the green. Maruti’s playing the global game smart—could be a sign of things to come as festivals ramp up. What do you think, will the holiday rush turn this around? Drop a comment below.
