Mingus Lucien Reedus, the 25-year-old son of actor Norman Reedus and supermodel Helena Christensen, was ordered by a Manhattan Criminal Court judge to stay away from a 33-year-old woman who accused him of assault. The incident occurred on August 23, 2025, at Mingus’s Chelsea apartment in New York City. According to court records and police reports, the woman, reportedly Mingus’s girlfriend of five months, alleged that he punched her in the leg, choked her with enough force to lift her off the ground, and slammed her to the ground, causing bruising, redness, and substantial pain. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition with minor injuries to her neck and leg.
Mingus was arrested on August 23, 2025, around 8:40 a.m. after he called 911 to report that the woman had taken sleeping pills and was threatening to harm herself. However, upon arrival, police determined Mingus was the aggressor based on the woman’s accusations. He was initially charged with third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing. Later that evening, additional charges were added, including reckless physical injury, aggravated harassment, and second-degree harassment. Mingus pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on his own recognizance without bail or supervision, with a court order to avoid contact with the alleged victim. He is due back in court on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, to continue the case.
Mingus’s attorney, Priya Chaudhry, argued that the incident was a misunderstanding, stating that Mingus ended the relationship prior to the event, and the woman’s distress led to her taking sleeping pills. Chaudhry emphasized that the charges are misdemeanors or lower, suggesting they reflect the case’s lack of severity, and maintained that Mingus is presumed innocent, with his innocence expected to be proven as facts emerge. A woman identified as the girlfriend was seen leaving the 10th Precinct and reportedly called the situation a “misunderstanding,” stating she was not afraid of Mingus and did not wish to press charges. However, Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Shamahs upheld the order for Mingus to stay away from her.
This is not Mingus’s first legal trouble. In September 2021, he was arrested for allegedly punching a 24-year-old woman during the San Gennaro Festival in Manhattan. He claimed the woman and her friends harassed him, and he accidentally struck her while defending himself. In March 2022, he accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, a lesser charge, and was sentenced to five counseling sessions.
