Beloved Nursing Influencer Hailey Okula Dies Following Childbirth Complications
April 4, 2025 – Los Angeles, California – Hailey Okula, known online as “Nurse Hailey,” a cherished ER nurse and influential figure in the nursing community, tragically passed away on March 29, 2025, due to complications following the birth of her first child, Crew.

Hailey and her husband, Matthew Okula, a firefighter with the Los Angeles Fire Department, faced nearly two years of infertility before successfully conceiving through IVF. They openly shared their emotional journey with their combined following of nearly one million on social media, inspiring many with their resilience and transparency.
Tragic Turn During Childbirth
Shortly after Crew’s birth via cesarean section, Hailey suffered an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE), a rare and often fatal complication where amniotic fluid enters the maternal bloodstream, leading to cardiac arrest and cardiovascular collapse. Despite immediate medical intervention, she tragically passed away.
