Lagos, Nigeria – April 19, 2025

Nollywood icon Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has made a triumphant debut as an executive producer with his latest film, Radio Voice, which grossed an impressive ₦34.7 million at the Nigerian box office in its first week following its April 11 release. The film, a gripping drama exploring themes of redemption, identity, and the power of media, has captivated audiences and solidified RMD’s expanding legacy in Nigerian cinema.

The star-studded premiere, held on April 6 at Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi, Lagos, and sponsored by telecommunications giant Globacom, drew Nollywood heavyweights including Segun Arinze, Rita Dominic, AY, Ini Edo, Ramsey Noah, Nancy Isime, BamBam, Kiekie, Dorcas Ariyiike, Deyemi Okanlawon, and Timini Egbuson. Hosted by media personality Ariyiike Dimples, the event set a glamorous tone with attendees showcasing sharp suits and timeless dresses, reflecting the film’s refined aesthetic.

Directed by Isioma Osaje, Radio Voice follows the journey of a former sex worker who finds purpose through a struggling radio station while confronting her past. The film features a stellar ensemble cast, including RMD, Nancy Isime, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Deyemi Okanlawon, Timini Egbuson, Adedamola Adewale, Blessing Jessica Obasi, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Jasmine Lelah, Oprah Okereke, and Kelechi Benwosely Kachikwu. RMD described the project as a “labour of love” and a “testament to the triumph of the human spirit over adversity,” expressing gratitude to his team for bringing the story to life.

The film’s strong opening weekend, which included ₦22.6 million as reported by The Nollywood Reporter, underscores Nollywood’s growing commercial clout. Posts on X echoed the excitement, with @Nairametrics and @alaye_ng highlighting the ₦34.7 million haul, while @seunmanuelfly praised RMD’s production milestone. The film’s strategic release plan, backed by a global distribution deal with Nile Entertainment Group, aims to expand its reach across West Africa and into diaspora markets.

Radio Voice has been lauded as a personal project for RMD, who told BellaNaija, “Some stories don’t just live in your heart, they take root in your heart, waiting for the right time to be told.” Critics have praised its nuanced exploration of media influence and personal struggle, with Osaje calling it “a tribute to the legacy of radio in Nigeria” and “an intimate look at the human voice as both a tool and a burden.”

As Nollywood continues to gain international traction, Radio Voice positions RMD as not only a beloved actor but also a visionary producer. With nominations looming for the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, the film’s early success signals a bright future for RMD Productions and Nigerian storytelling on the global stage.
