July 2, 2025 – Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual sequel to the 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par, hit theaters on June 20, 2025, and made a robust start at the box office. The sports comedy-drama, directed by R.S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, collected an estimated ₹10.5-11.5 crore net on its opening day in India, according to trade estimates and producer figures.
The film, starring Aamir Khan as a basketball coach mentoring neurodivergent athletes, alongside Genelia Deshmukh, saw a Hindi occupancy of 21.43%, with night shows reaching 32.50%. Tamil and Telugu versions recorded 16.21% and 16.35% occupancy, respectively. Despite competition from new releases like Kajol’s Maa and Vishnu Manchu’s Kannappa, the film’s emotional storytelling and positive word-of-mouth drove its performance, surpassing Aamir’s previous film Laal Singh Chaddha’s opening of ₹11.5 crore in 2022.
Globally, Sitaare Zameen Par grossed ₹21 crore on day one, including ₹7.38 crore from overseas markets, securing its place as the fifth highest Bollywood opener of 2025, outpacing Sky Force (₹19.55 crore). Released on over 3,200 screens in India, the film’s ₹90 crore budget means it needs to cross ₹100 crore to be deemed a hit, a target it’s well-positioned to achieve given its strong weekend projections.
