Atp Montecarlo, Musetti wins the first set: 6-3 against caps

MONTE CARLO, Monaco – April 10, 2025

Italian tennis star Lorenzo Musetti has made a strong start in his ATP Rolex Monte Carlo Masters match today, clinching the first set 6-3 against his opponent in the prestigious clay court tournament.

Musetti, who has shown promising form on clay throughout his career, displayed exceptional shot-making ability and tactical awareness throughout the opening set. The 23-year-old Italian utilized his signature one-handed backhand to great effect, particularly when redirecting the ball down the line against his opponent’s defenses.

After trading holds in the early games, Musetti secured the crucial break in the sixth game with a spectacular passing shot that brought the crowd to their feet. From there, the Italian consolidated his advantage with confident service games, closing out the set with relative comfort.

“Musetti’s movement on clay looks exceptional today,” noted former player and commentator Mark Petchey during the broadcast. “His ability to construct points patiently while still finding those moments to accelerate and take control is reminiscent of the clay court greats.”

The Monte Carlo tournament represents one of the most prestigious events of the clay court season, serving as an important buildup to the French Open. Musetti, who reached the fourth round at Roland Garros last year, appears to be finding his rhythm at the perfect time in the tennis calendar.

His opponent will now need to regroup quickly if he hopes to force a deciding third set in this compelling matchup at the picturesque Monte Carlo Country Club, where the courts overlook the Mediterranean Sea.

Tournament director David Massey was spotted among the spectators, as the event continues to draw elite players and tennis enthusiasts to the principality for one of the most scenic stops on the ATP Tour.

The winner of this match will advance to face either the third seed or a dangerous unseeded player who advanced through earlier rounds with several upset victories.
